Every week we get dozens of questions about
our removals, storage, packing, and shipping services, which is understandable,
given our status as one of Lincolnshire’s foremost providers of all four.
To save your time, here are some of the more Frequently Asked Questions that come our way, together with our answers.
Domestic removals services
These are the most common questions concerning our domestic removals services.
How far in advance do I need to book my moving date?
While we can sometimes offer a last-minute slot, this is normally only when we have had a recent cancellation. To guarantee our services on the date you need, we recommend giving us six to eight weeks’ notice.
Do I need to disassemble my furniture, or will your movers do it?
If you want us to take your furniture apart and put it back together again at the other end, we are happy to do so. Just be sure to inform us at the time of booking, so that we can incorporate the extra time into our schedule.
Do I need to arrange a parking permit for the removal van?
This really depends on your particular street and how it is laid out since the regulations for parking differ from one area to the next. Unless you have a neighbour, who has recently hired a large removal van and already knows the answer to this, then your best bet is to contact your local council.
How long will the removals process take on the day?
We would expect to spend between an hour and an hour and a half loading up the contents of a standard four-bedroom house, assuming everything is already disassembled, packed up, and ready to go. We would expect to take a similar amount of time unloading the boxes at the other end of the move. Outside of that, the main allowance for time is what it takes to travel from your old house to your new one.

Can you really ship a package anywhere in the world?
Yes, we can. Whether you’re sending a parcel across the country or to the other side of the globe, we can ensure that it gets there safe and sound, in a timely manner.
Are there any size restrictions to the packages I can send?
Not as such. However, any particularly large or heavy shipments may exceed the carriage allowances to travel by air mail. Such deliveries can still be made but will have to rely on the slower surface mail methods. Is there anything I can’t send through your shipping service?

Every country has its own list of restricted and prohibited items. We keep a database of such restrictions which we constantly maintain to ensure that it is up to date at the time you send your parcel. Some items that are almost universally prohibited included inflammable liquids, narcotics, guns and ammunition, and live animals, for instance, but be sure to check with us before putting your parcel together.
What paperwork will I need to fill in?
For international deliveries, you will need to complete a customs declaration that includes a description of the contents of the parcel. For certain destinations, there will be other forms that need filling in depending on the parcel itself. With our years of experience, we are happy to assist you in obtaining and filling in these forms to ensure a smooth delivery.
Does my package need packing in a particular way?
Strictly speaking, no. However, if you’re shipping an item abroad, you will want it packed in a way that will protect it as it passes through several ports on its journey. We can help you do that if you require us to.
How do I address my parcel?
Different countries have different addressing conventions. Fortunately, here at Perfect Move, we have experience dealing with hundreds of countries around the world, so we can help you put the address down correctly, limiting the risk of it going missing en route.

Is there a minimum amount of time I have to keep my belongings in storage for?
Not at all – here at Perfect Move, we offer an extensive range of storage options, not least of which is the term of the contract. Not matter if you intend to keep your belongings with us for a week, a month, a year, or longer, we can put together a self-storage package that suits you down to the ground.
Can I change the length of my storage term midway through?
We’re flexible with our storage solutions here at Perfect Move. If you need to extend your existing term or cut it short, then we are happy to accommodate you whenever possible. Please be advised that, since our long-term contracts are more cost-effective than our short-term ones, cancelling a contract too early could result in us applying a small service fee.
Do I need to bring my belongings to the storage facility myself?
Our storage facility certainly allows you to drop your belongings off at your unit, but if this is a problem – if you don’t drive, for instance – then you can always arrange for our removals team to handle it for you using one of our fleet of removals vans.
Will my items be safe in your storage facility?
Every one of the storage units in our facility is covered on a 24-hour basis by a state-of-the-art CCTV surveillance system. This records everybody entering and leaving the warehouse and is monitored constantly, leaving you safe in the knowledge that your items are in safe hands.
Will my items be insured whilst in your storage facility?
All of your belongings are fully insured for the duration of the time they spend in our facility. A copy of the insurance policy and the grounds under which you can make a claim will be provided to you when you sign your contract.
Will I have access to my items during the time that they are in storage?
Upon loading your self-storage unit you will be given a key that gives you sole access to the unit itself, something you can do at a time that suits you.
Are your storage solutions for domestic customers only?
While much of our business is from domestic clients, we are just as happy to provide storage solutions to the commercial and industrial sectors. Whether you need somewhere to store stock or equipment, or just a place to archive important documents to save room at the office, we can put together a package that works for you.

Do I really need a packing service?
Not if you’re prepared to do all of the packings yourself, no. Many of our customers choose to take advantage of our packing service because of the time they save in doing so. Clearing out an entire house and packing it into boxes and be an exhausting and time-consuming job, which is doubtless why many of our domestic clients opt to leave it to our team of experts.
I can handle most of the packing, I just need help with a few bits. Can you help me?
By all means. If you’re a quite happy loading most of your belongings into their respective boxes, then we are quite content to assist you with those few difficult items, be they awkwardly shaped objects or particularly fragile collectables.
Will you only pack for a removals job?
Not at all. We are also prepared to help you pack up your items as part of our self-storage service, as well as if you are preparing a parcel or a package to be sent via our shipping facility. In either event, we treat the packing process as seriously as we do if it involves a house move.
Are my items insured during the packing process?
Unlike our removals, storage, and shipping services, our insurance does not stretch to any items damaged during the packing process. Of course, every one of our team is a highly-trained and experienced professional, so the chances of an accidental break occurring are slim at worst.
What do I need to have ready before you start packing?
When we turn up to pack away your belongings, we want you to point us towards those items that need packing away, clarify which items are staying put, and then you can leave us to it. What we will not have time to do is to go through things as we pack, sorting and separating along the way.
I’m planning on packing myself. Can you tell me where I can find good quality boxes?
Of course – from us! We use only the best
cardboard boxes, bubble wrap, and packing tape when we’re helping our customers
to box up their belongings, so it’s only fitting that we provide you with the
same, should you prefer to do the job yourself.
